FAQS What is www.hallabolo.com? Hallabolo simply means to “Raise your Voice”. We decided to call it Hallabolo as a tribute to Safdar Hashmi the original anti corruption soldier who raised his voice against all wrongs with street plays. While Hallabolo is an online platform, it shall also have easy mobile uploads, so as to empower every individual in society, as most (including the small traders & skilled workmen like plumbers/ farmers) have mobile phones now. The platform shall slowly but surely all the necessary tools (mobile uploading, video streaming, sms/mms coding etc) to empower every citizen to RIGHT every WRONG, crusade against corruption and other social evils plaguing our society. Any and all citizens can post any video / audio recording, pictures that have been clicked as visual / audio evidence of any social ill, corrupt act or wrong doing. Once we verify the credibility of the post we shall take necessary action and our volunteers shall invest relentless efforts to ensure that action is taken against the culprits / perpetrators of the wrong doing. A citizen can post a video on the video streaming site we use (which shall be YouTube or FlowPlayer) and then send us the link that we can embed along with a brief write up in not more than 560 characters. A citizen may also post a video directly on the site and it shall then go in automatically onto the video streaming. We shall be enabling the direct mobile uploads in late 2012 or early 2013. We shall also have direct uploads on the portal from mid 2012. A citizen can post pictures or photos directly on the portal after registering along with a brief description of what the issue / incident is all about? No. This is a free service. However you may volunteer your time / efforts to help us with our outreach. One may record their statement and narrate what was the issue they faced with some evidence of what they faced and send us this video recording. After checking on this with the person who reported the issue we shall upload it. To ensure accountability, authenticity and genuineness of the reports / posts we need the registration details with email ID and mobile number (essential). One has to register to post anything on this site and 100% anonymity is assured if the person does not wish to disclose her / his identity. The details given while registering shall be known only to 5 core members of the Hallabolo team who are sworn to secrecy and confidentiality. However, One may also send the video link in an anonymous drop box (without registering) that we are creating and our citizen editors shall then investigate the full details and post it after authenticating the details. What if citizens are attacked by cops or other official while taking pictures or making videos? All registered citizens shall be given a press kit with an ID card and a press authorized kit to enable them. You may show this when you start filming as there is STILL freedom of press in this country and once you show this card no one should. Hallabolo is more of a video based platform. However one may write an article and the same shall be published on www.idishoom.com which is the voice for citizen action and was profiled in a national daily as the changing face of activism. Yes all posts will be followed up on thoroughly by our volunteers who shall send the posts to respective offices, ministries, bureaucrats, ministers, MPs, public servants requesting them to TAKE ACTION. It is our assurance from our founders of www.hallabolo.com and www.idishoom.com that once an article, video or a post goes up, it will never be taken down no matter what the threats, coercion or pressure tactics, legal ruses employed by the people in power, culprits and perpetrators. Yes since we were earlier using shared servers we got hacked and blocked. However now we shall be using dedicated servers and are being supported by Ctrl S (www.ctrls.in) and also plan to create mirror sites. We appeal to citizens and organisations that would be willing to support us with space on their server to create mirror sites.
